Happy New Year! I hope everybody has had a blessed day. This week, in terms of weather, will be fairly boring. Hello La Nina! Monday through Wednesday will be cool to mild, with Monday being the coolest day; each day will get slightly warmer than the previous one. Overnight lows will be fairly chilly tonight and tomorrow night with several locations dropping below 30, especially tomorrow night when most locations will be in the mid 20's. The zonal pattern will begin to change over the weekend when a cold front moves into the area sometime during the Saturday/Sunday time frame. At the same time models are hinting at a cutoff low developing to our southwest. The ECMWF is the slowest and deepest with the low, while the GFS is a little more progressive. At this time, I believe the ECMWF is the model with the best handle on this developing system.
(The pattern thus far has featured lows cutting off to our southwest and slowly moving off to the northeast.) If the ECMWF solution were to verify then precip chances would be on the increase for Monday, some possibly being heavy. Right now temperatures appear to be too warm for any wintery precipitation in our area, but it is January and potentially a cutoff low. A lot will change over the next few days, so continue to check back for updates on this pattern change. Texoma Weather will continue to update you all, and update this preliminary forecast, as models get a better handle on the upcoming changes.
