Snow!

Things are definitely interesting tonight! The system in west Texas is a little bit stronger than the models were originally showing; lightning is evening showing up with several elevated thunderstorms too. (I mentioned in an earlier blog "if the system were to be stronger it would increase the threat for snow.") That appears to be the case. The 00Z NAM, the latest RUC and Rapid Refresh models are showing snowfall accumulating in our area. This is due to stronger lift which will increase the precipitation, in return cooling the atmosphere. It's possible that under the heavier bands of precip ,early tomorrow morning, that all the precip falls as snow; however, under the lighter bands it will likely be a rain/snow mixture. Here is what I'm expecting tomorrow morning in our area.
Continue to check back because I will update you on any changes that are necessary. Also, as the main energy move across the area, around the Tuesday time frame, some light snow is also possible. This light snow for Tuesday is still being evaluated due to the recent developments in the latest model runs, so it could change. The atmosphere will be very moisture starved, but a lot of times these systems can squeeze out precip with very little moisture.
