Very Cold Rain, But What About Snow?

Good early afternoon, Texoma. As you all know, due to my updates on Facebook yesterday, the models have trended away from a winter storm in our area and continue to do so today. Winter storms are so hard to predict in this region of the country and so much can change within 10 hours of a winter storm arriving. With that said I still believe some areas will have a change over to a snow/rain mix. The best location for this changeover will be along and west of HWY 75, especially near the I-35 corridor. These locations could get a brief dusting of wet snow late tonight and early tomorrow morning. If you live east of HWY 75 don't expect snow to stick, but don't be surprised if you see some wet flakes mixing in with the rain. Now for some more fun, the main low will move overhead Tuesday into Wednesday, the atmosphere will likely be too moisture starved for any significant precipitation, however, don't be surprised if you see some very light snow/flurries. Today through Wednesday will be very chilly with high's in the upper 30's to lower 40's near the Metroplex. It will likely be cloudy for the next two or three days as well. Even though we aren't getting as much wintery precip as once thought, be thankful for the beneficial rainfall that we've received; this will definitely put a big dent in the improving drought, and hopefully add some decent amounts of water to local lakes. I will have another blog on the extended forecast in the upcoming days. Here is what the Fort Worth National Weather Service is expecting, and I have to say that I agree with what they are forecasting, however, I do think some areas east of I-35 will see some wet snow mix in with the rain too. With all that said keep checking back for updates because you know just as well as I do things can change quickly here in north Texas and southern Oklahoma. (Temperatures are going to be crucial with this system, if models are off by even two degrees things could get nasty. Also, if the shortwave is a little stronger and has colder mid-level temps, which is possible, things could favor more towards snow. CONTINUE TO CHECK BACK FOR THE LATEST)
